A collaboration between Duquesne University, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh and Vibrant Pittsburgh to help international students understand the transition from F-1 to OPT to H-1B visa status, how to participate in interviews in the US, how to prepare a resume for an American audience and culminating with a Networking session.

12:00 PM - Registration Begins

12:30 PM - Keynote Speaker - Moussa Coulibaly, Former international student and current VP of Strategic Planning and Treasurer at Dick’s Sporting Goods. Mr. Coulibaly will offer his inspirational story of seeking a career in the U.S. as an international student, and finding success in the region.

1:00 PM - I’m Graduating: What’s Next? An Immigration Workshop guiding students from F-1 to OPT to H1-B

This session will cover the complex process of applying for Optional Practical Training (OPT) after you have completed your degree and the many considerations that student should keep in mind while applying for positions in the United States – whether in Pittsburgh or in another city. Local immigration attorneys will also discuss the various issues to consider when investigating career opportunities that offer the ability to obtain an H1B (Work) visa and Permanent Residency in this country.

2:30 PM - Regional Employment Trends

Understand the current popular areas of employment in Western Pennsylvania, what fields currently are attracting university graduates.

3:00 - 3:15 PM - Break

3:15 PM – American Resumes and Interview Preparation

Looking for a job in the US? Learn how to craft your resume and conduct a job interview to fit American employers’ expectations and standards. Should you include a picture? How about hobbies and interests? How many pages? We will discuss the “do’s and don’ts” of resume writing and interviewing with illustrative examples. You will leave with a sample resume. Bring a draft of your own resume for brief feedback at the end of the workshop.

4:00 PM - Networking with Local Employers (Refreshments will be provided)

Connect with local professionals from various companies and organizations who have made their home and careers in Western Pennsylvania.
